Privacy Policy — Cortex AI

Last updated: [FILL IN DATE BEFORE PUBLISHING]

Cortex AI, a product by Ikhlim ("we", "us", "our"), is a locally-run AI assistant distributed on a USB drive. This policy explains what data the software touches and — just as importantly — what it does not.

The short version

Cortex AI runs entirely on your own computer. We do not operate any server that receives, stores, or processes your data. We have no visibility into what you do with the software, what emails it reads or drafts, or what you type into it.

What data the software accesses, and where it goes

Local AI models (Ornith, Qwen2.5). These run entirely on your computer's own hardware. Nothing you type is sent anywhere.

Optional cloud AI providers (NVIDIA, and any other provider you configure, e.g. Anthropic, OpenRouter). If you add your own API key for one of these services, prompts and responses for that specific request are sent directly from your computer to that provider, using your own account and API key. We never see this traffic — it does not pass through us. Each provider's own privacy policy governs that data. We are not responsible for third-party providers' data handling.

Gmail / Google Calendar (optional). If you choose to connect a Google account, you authorize Cortex AI directly with Google using OAuth — the same standard sign-in flow used by any Google-integrated app. The resulting access token is stored only in a local file on your own drive. It is never transmitted to us, and we cannot access your email or calendar at any point. You can disconnect this at any time using the included reset tool, which permanently deletes the local credential.

Conversation memory. Session history and settings are stored locally on the drive itself (not on your computer's hard drive, not on any server). Deleting the drive, or using the included reset tool, permanently deletes this data. We do not have a copy.

What we do not do

Your controls

The included reset tool (reset.bat) lets you, at any time:

Third-party terms that also apply

If you connect Gmail/Calendar, your use is also governed by Google's Privacy Policy and Terms of Service. If you add a cloud AI provider's API key, that provider's own terms and privacy policy apply to that traffic.
